Evolutionary Discussion Group

Third or Fourth Tuesday of every month.

12:00 – 1:00 PM in X room.

This journal club brings together graduate students, postdocs, and faculty to discuss research in evolutionary biology. Discussions can center on a recent or classic paper, review, or book chapter. A list of suggested topics and readings can also be found below.

Each week, the presenter will select a reading at least one week in advance so everyone has time to look it over. At the start of the meeting, the presenter will spend about 5–10 minutes introducing the reading, explaining why they chose it, and highlighting key ideas or figures. This can be done with a few slides or simply by pulling up the paper. The remainder of the meeting will be an informal, free-ranging discussion.

The group is designed to alternate with the Evolutionary Supergroup talks on campus; the Supergroup typically meets during the second week of the month, and Discussion Group follows two weeks later in the same time slot. The Supergroup schedule can also be a source of ideas for the Discussion Group; you could choose a paper by an upcoming speaker so we can discuss their work before their visit.
